Giving Up Versus Giving In
Working with New Year’s Resolutions from a space of acceptance and surrender
This New Year, I wonder about the traditional of seeking change through giving up. Why do we tend to look at our year from the lens of our mistakes, our addictions, and our shame? Why do we make promises we know we aren’t going to keep? In deciding to eat less, exercise more, save money, give up social media, stop smoking, drink less, etc we don’t even necessarily try to kid ourselves that anything we decide is going to succeed. It’s more and more common for people to only try to stick to these resolutions for the month of January. We understand that expecting an entire year to go by with the resolutions we make is impossible.
